The Hungarian capital stands for Gipsy music, the typical Gulyas stew, and amazing architecture from the turn of the centuries. While Buda was the seat of the Hungarian kings for ages, Pest’s heyday was the fin-de-siècle, when Hungary celebrated its first millennium. Join us for a private day trip and see for yourself!
With a friendly English-speaking guide you depart from your hotel in Vienna in a comfortable private vehicle. Heading east you cross the Hungarian border and drive through the Hungarian lowlands to Budapest.
Upon arrival your guide will take you on a 3-hour private city tour covering the city’s most beautiful sights. First, you’ll explore Buda’s medieval castle district on foot. Here you see Trinity Square with the gothic Matyas church and the famous Fisherman’s Bastion as well as the massive Buda Castle. The actual castle is a replication from the time of communism but it’s predecessors date as far back as the 13th century!
Crossing the Danube River by car you reach Pest, also named Paris-of-the east, where you’ll see Hungary’s beautiful parliament, Heroe’s Square, elegant Andrassy Avenue, Budapest’s Opera House and lively Vaci Street street in the city center. After the city tour treat yourself to a delicious Hungarian meal in one of Pest’s great restaurants.
Spend the afternoon at leisure in Pest’s lively center for shopping or to further explore the city. Or bring your bathing suit and soak away the afternoon in Budapest’s famous Gellert Bath. In the late afternoon meet up with your guide for the return trip to Vienna.
Enjoy the exclusive service and personal atmosphere of a private tour: Your knowledgeable guide is ready to respond to (almost) your every request and requirement. Decide for yourself what you want to see and how much time to spend at each location. Lots of photo opportunities!

While staying in Vienna, we took a private day trip to Budapest through Viator Tours that hooked us up with Vienna A La Carte. Ton, our driver, promptly picked us up at the hotel, and drove us around Budapest, while Anna, who is from Budapest, was our personal tour guide. We had a delightful time with no worries. Anna shares her knowledge of Budapest with passion and insight. We learned so much and at all times, their consideration for our needs and interests was evident. We ate authentic Hungarian goulash and it was delicious! I would encourage anyone who wants personal guides and transportation for a delightful day in Budapest to book this tour!
This was absolutely a fantastic evening of great conversation, food, and Hungarian wines. Only myself and my wife signed up for the tasting and they still closed the store for our evening. Our guide was Tamas. It was like having a private tutor telling us about each region and what to expect from each tasting. It still would have been fun if there were 10 people there. We paid extra for the charcuterie boards, and they were very large and very, very tasty. We ended up buying extra wine to take back to the states, along with some oils and sauces for our own tasting boards. Would definitely do this again without reservation!
Our trip was wonderful and so easy. Josef was a fantastic driver and Nora was a great guide. It was a picture perfect day.
Ulrich and his team did a terrific job and we highly recommend them. This was our first trip to Vienna and we ended up booking Vienna a la Carte for three different tours including a fantastic day long trip to Budapest. Ulrich and his guides are very knowledgable and we would definitely book them again on our next trip to Vienna. Joseph and Lauren G.
Our group of 6 booked the highest rated tour guides on Trip Advisor for Budapest, Vienna and Prague. Although all of the guides were great, Brenda was the best. With her Irish brogue that she has not completely lost despite 44 years in Vienna, Brenda shared her very extensive knowledge of the history and culture of Austria with her sense of humor and a glint in her eye. Highly recommended.
