Vienna’s world-famous Kunsthistorisches Museum is an architectural marvel and is a must-see for any art lover visiting Vienna. The museum developed from the art collections of the House of Habsburg and hosts a unique collection of some of the world’s most famous painters from Raphael and Rembrandt to Vermeer and Rubens and, of course, Peter Bruegel the Elder.
Skip the line and join no more than 15 guests on a guided tour of two of the museum’s key exhibitions. From Bruegel’s “Tower of Babel” to Vermeer’s “The Art of Painting” you will become acquainted with the old masters at the museum’s Picture Gallery. You will also see some of the Museum’s rarest and oddest items at the Kunstkammer exhibit, like the golden “Saliera” by Cellini and the “Madonna of Krumau”.
After the tour you are free to stay at the museum to explore the remaining exhibits, including those covering ancient Greek, Roman and Egyptian art.

The museum itself is a must-have experience. The Habsburgs were extremely into art pieces. The whole wall of Caravaggio? The big room where only Tizian is displayed? Easy if you were Habsburg. The building is stunningly luxurious as well. Our guide Diana was telling many important and interesting details about the pieces and the place. We enjoyed her company and expertise immensely.
Dietr was a most excellent guide who knew so much about the art and the artists in the Kunsthistorisches. He started the tour early and he provided us with earpieces so we can hear him clearly. We really enjoyed our tour with him and it gave us a nice overview of the museum. He kept things interesting and lively, and he was very kind and let us old folks sit down while he discussed the art pieces. We would highly recommend doing a tour with Dietr.
Exceptional, Brenda was phenomenal.
The woman who guided us, whose name I unfortunately don’t remember, was incredibly skilled and thorough in her explanations. Highly recommended!
Our guide, Cornelia, had such enthusiasm for the museum, the works of art, and Vienna history that you couldn’t help but enjoy every minute of the tour! It was a great way to get an overview of this spectacular museum.
